I went and fished the pass looking for redfish and caught not one. Lots of boats out there looking for the same thing, the only blowups I saw were bobos. Caught 1 on my lighter rod and had a blast! I had only caught them on my king rod before but a light rod and a yak was a total blast. The only bad part was he inhaled the hook, I ripped his gill or lung when removing the hook. Blood just started pouring out , I was covered in blood, the yak was covered. Got checked by the fwc (again) and they wanted to know where to get my kayak =) It was a great day on the water, the hobie was so comfortable. I was out there from 9-3 and only went in cause Hannah had a b-ball game. I could have stayed out there another 6 hours. I love this time of year, now to catch a big redfish...

My new kayak from Sunjammers
Brad the ownwer of Sunjammers contacted me last week about being sponsered by Sunjammers & being a part of Team Hobies local fishing team. Of course I said yes & am very excited to be a part of this . Picked up my Hobie Outback which has the pedal drive system, which basically mean you can pedal your kayak and your hands are free to fish. It's an awesome design and took it out for a test ride yesterday evening. The water was so calm , I really can't recall having a more beautiful day on the water. I also had 3 schools of Tarpon come by between 5-5:30, I wasn't set up to fish for Tarpon so I just enjoyed wastching them swim by , with some fish being 100lbers.
So I guess when the paperwork gets filled out I will be officially part of the local Hobie fishing team.
My 2nd Sail from the yak 3 days later
ok....are you ready for round 2 of my sailfishing adventures? I headed out this morning in search of another sail. I brought a bag of ballyhoo in case I didn't find my Lys but right off the bat about 30 min into into my paddle I found to big LYs. So I let one go off the back and kept the other on my spinning reel close to my yak . Within minutes a sail comes right up to the close in bait and starts checking it out . I quickly grab the rod and start trying to get line out to let the Ly swim, then the sail turns away and 3 secs later my other rod starts screaming. So I quickly reel the first line in and just let it swim right next to my yak, I don't want this bait to die. So I grab the rod that's going off and I am not lying I think I was pulled at least 1 mile offshore. After about 30 or so min I get him close to the yak he is lit up and WAY bigger then the sail I got a few days ago. He starts tailwalking in front of me and I was so nervouse he was going to jump right on top of me I quickly let some line out to get him away from me. And then.... I look out of the corner of my eye and I watch a mahi inhale the other ly that is literally inches from my yak and that rod starts sreaming. Now I'm several miles offshore and I have a sailfish at my bow and a mahi peeling drag on my stern. The sailfish is done, so I get him yakside and quickly release him and off he goes. I was exhausted from the sail and then the mahi put up a good fight lots of jumps and finally got him gaffed and in the yak. That was the longest paddle back in fighting north winds but it was and epic day and believe I won't top today for a VERY long time!!!Wish I could have gotten better pics of the sail so you could see the size of him
A couple of my yak buddies Hannas & Jimmy they were coming in with a couple of nice mahi as I was going out. I actually hooked my sail while they were just geting to the beach.
Ernie's Sailfish from the Kayak
This time it was Ernie's turn to catch one. I went out for about an hour and there were some really big swells when my daughter called and was sick at school. So I called Ernie & had him meet me on the beach. The weather got nasty and he was going to come in around 11:30 but it cleared again and he decided to stay out. About 1:00 he called to say he'd caight a sail. Great job honey!
Sailfish from my kayak 10/07
Mission accomplished - sailfish from my kayak!I've been dying to get out in my kayak the the last few days but conditions have been terrible. I got into a school of blackfin about 5 days ago and since then all I can think about is them and sailfish. So today after dropping my daughter off at school I headed out in the yak. After getting stung by a bee about an hour after being out there and not seeing much activity I was starting to have doubts that this was going to be a good day. Caught a few small hardtails and pulled them around I finally found a spot that looked like it had potential just a big smooth circle of water so I dropped my sabiki down and caught 2 big beautiful lys. Got one out and continued to catch some nice cigs, put a big cig on my other line, well not more then 5 min into it my drag starts screaming & I see a streak of blue shoot through the water - to dark to be a King... sure enough it was my sail. He ate the ly. He made several runs with lots of jumps, it was surreal being in a yak and experiencing this. I wasn't really that far from shore so I called Ernie & had him meet me at the end of our street to take a quick pic. He was released, tired but swam away strong.

October at Pier Park
Right down the road from our house we have a huge outdoor mall right across the street from of the Gulf of Mexico. There is even a section of beach near the fishing pier that is dog - friendly. Hannah & Lauren love to go there walk around shop & eat. This past weekend we took Mason, our Rottweiler, and entered him in a doggie costume contest. He didn't win but he was a big hit!

This was the 2nd place winner, Rhinestone Cowboy

Hannah & Mason enjoying the beautiful weather

there is even a big sand pit that kept Lauren occupied for quite a while

this was the first place winner - a pirate - adorable!

what a cute little pirate
