Ernie & I went to the beach on the west side of the new pc Pier. Ernie watched the baby & I hopped in my yak & away I went. The plan was to drift a cig & look for Cobia. I was hoping to find a ling hanging out around the pier I got to the end and there were already 2 boats. I see a turtle out past the end but from my yak can't see anything else. I see a boat headed right for it. I cast a jig and dont get any takers. The boat runs right over the turtle and down he goes... So I start talking to the boat who is chumming at the end, and asked him about the turtle... they never saw it... Anywho they did catch a decent ling and were hoping for another. Then the lifeguard paddles out and says the boats can't be there, but I can! She paddles out like 3 more times running boats off, I am loving this!! So I am blind casting and just working my jig all around the pilings when jig, jig & bam I'm on! There was one boat out there and I am screaming, I'm on I'm on I got a ling, they are just looking at me like I'm crazy. He's not as big as I fisrt thought and my yak is being pushed into the pier. I try and paddle and fight the fish and when he gets to the yak the first time he totally freaks out and heads straight down. I finally get him next to the yak and I am debating killing him, I was either going to knife him and drag him into the boat or release him. He wasn't a big fish plus we have a 50lber filleted in our kitchen, so I released him and off he went. There was no way I could take a picture while trying to keep this fish next to the yak all the while the sw waves are pushing me into the pier piling. So no picture but that was my first Cobia from a yak and it was freakin unbelievable. So now I want a BIG fish and I want to sight cast it. I do not care if I get pulled out to sea, he would have to tire eventually. maybe a disposbale water proof camera would be good.
